I am happy to report that Luke’s bathroom floor is finished! After several disastrous starts and stops I was finally able to get 4 more tiles and cut them exactly as I needed. The toilet has been reinstalled (and even works)….

I have to ask ….is it still progress if I had nothing to do with it? The electrician came and upgraded our electric panel in the basement. It is HUGE and very shiny. There are many, many open breakers so lots of room to add electrical appliances etc

On a less-than-happy note. The fireplace/chimney man came and inspected the chimneys and fireplaces both in the Main House and the Carriage House. Currently all fireplaces are sealed with ornamental metal covers. According to the experts the fireplaces were originally built to burn coal. The inside boxes are very shallow and the chimneys are narrow and unlined. Bottom line is that they probably won’t be able to be used in their present state. The company is recommending extensive work to repoint the mortar, clean and stabilize the chimneys and repair the ‘boot flashing’ (whatever that is but apparently you need it). There may be the possibility of putting an insert in one or more of the fireplaces but I’m not sure about that. Awaiting more information. They also discovered that the gas hot water heater and the gas heat boiler are both vented through on of the chimneys. With the chimney not being lined they said it is a hazard. Bottom line is that for an exorbitant amount of money a lot of work will be done – none of which will be visible to the naked eye – and we still won’t have working fireplaces!!! heavy sigh…….

We had our 2nd out of town visitor this past week as well!
